I met her on a warm summer night in August where we walked her dog for hours as we talked about ourselves and our dreams for life. After several months of trying desperately to extinguish the torrent of emotions I was feeling for this woman that would *surely* wash her away like a tidal wave if I didn’t keep them under control, she began to open up to me and expressed her desires to travel internationally. I was overjoyed that I could begin to show her how deeply I felt for her, and I happen to be Swiss, and so I suggested that we go visit my homeland and see my sister and father and perhaps some of my old childhood friends as well.
It was early January when we finalized our plans and bought the plane tickets. The trip was set for April! We were intensely excited to go and speak French and explore the beauty of the Swiss Alps, and of course, visit a cheese museum. As the year progressed we built a stronger and stronger bond. Shortly after a wonderful Valentine’s weekend and like a wrecking ball COVID-19 came smashing into our lives and our plans came screeching to a halt. We held onto the belief that somehow we might still get to Switzerland, but as March turned into April we realized this was not going to happen. It has now been 241 days, and as we grasp onto the remains of our sanity sitting at home unable to explore this wonderful world we wait, and we wait. Someday, we will get to see the world…
